On May 26, according to people familiar with the matter, Samsung Electronics is transferring hundreds of employees of Samsung Display (Samsung Display) to its chip packaging business unit. Employees under the age of 37 can apply to change departments, and Samsung Electronics is processing Samsung Display employees' transfer applications, which are expected to be completed in the second half of this year, people familiar with the matter said.
The report pointed out that this is the third time Samsung Electronics has made personnel adjustments to Samsung Display in the past two years, and it also made similar transfers in the first half and second half of last year. Samsung Display is exiting the liquid crystal display (LCD) business and therefore needs less manpower, while Samsung Electronics' chip business needs more manpower due to a shortage of talent.
It is reported that Samsung Display originally planned to end the LCD business by the end of 2020, but according to the requirements of Samsung Electronics TV business unit, it is still operating some production lines. The L8 line is the only one still operating, but will also end production by the end of next month.
