LitePoint collaborates with Samsung Electronics to execute FiRa 2.0 secure ranging test cases

Thursday,May 16,2024

This collaboration will expedite the implementation and validation of the latest FiRa 2.0 secure ranging tests for UWB devices used in indoor navigation, tracking, and remote device control.

Leading wireless test solutions provider LitePoint and Samsung Electronics announced today a close collaboration to support new security test cases defined within the FiRa 2.0 physical layer (PHY) compliance test specification. The new secure ranging test cases are executed within LitePoint's automated test software IQfact+ on the IQgig-UWB and IQgig-UWB+ platforms, and validated with Samsung's latest UWB chipset, the Exynos Connect U100.

UWB, with its unique centimeter-level distance measurement accuracy, range limiting capabilities, and robust built-in encryption technology, has seen widespread adoption in mission-critical applications such as asset tracking and digital key access, where precise location and security are paramount. The introduction of new PHY security level test cases extends the existing test cases specified in the FiRa 2.0 test specification, reinforcing the security elements related to ranging. These new tests demonstrate that FiRa-certified UWB devices can reliably detect and resist common malicious attacks, ensuring that FiRa-verified devices achieve a high level of security.

The FiRa Alliance, dedicated to enhancing interoperability of UWB devices, announced the FiRa 2.0 technology and test specifications in 2023. FiRa 2.0 supports the development of new test cases, promotes widespread adoption of UWB-based applications, and introduces methods to mitigate the impact of malicious attacks. As the first test equipment vendor to join FiRa, LitePoint continues to leverage its expertise in UWB PHY testing to enhance device-level interoperability and provide FiRa members with a one-stop FiRa 2.0 PHY compliance verification test system.

"Security is crucial for the success of UWB. We are pleased to collaborate with LitePoint to use FiRa PHY secure ranging test cases to validate our implementation of FiRa PHY security parameters," said Joonsuk Kim, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Connectivity Development Team. "Implementing the latest FiRa 2.0 secure ranging capabilities is a significant step forward in advancing the UWB ecosystem. Our close collaboration with LitePoint significantly accelerates these efforts."

"As a leader in UWB PHY layer testing, LitePoint is delighted to collaborate with Samsung to ensure interoperability and security of UWB devices," said John Lukez, President of LitePoint. "We are committed to advancing the FiRa vision to ensure interoperability and security of UWB, contributing to the thriving development of the UWB market."
