Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks reach cooperation on electric vehicle charging piles

Sunday,Jul 21,2024

On July 19, Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging and Starbucks announced on July 17 local time that the two parties will cooperate to install electric vehicle charging piles in more than 100 Starbucks chain stores across the United States.

Mercedes-Benz's High-Power Charging said that the first phase of the cooperation will install 400-kilowatt electric vehicle charging piles in Starbucks stores along Interstate 5.

Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks also plan to focus on markets including urban areas, charging deserts and important travel channels.

The cost of the plan has not been disclosed. It is worth noting that Starbucks mainly contributes site resources in this cooperation without having to bear construction costs, which lowers the threshold for cooperation. At the same time, MN8 Energy, a subsidiary of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, as an important partner of Mercedes, will bear part of the investment amount to help the charging infrastructure construction project.

Since the first charging station was established in November last year, Mercedes-Benz has built more than 10 400-kilowatt electric vehicle charging stations in Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, etc. The company expects that the layout of charging stations will be expanded to nearly half of the states in the United States in the next 12-18 months.
