Infineon and Swoboda collaborate to develop high-performance current sensors for electric vehicles

Sunday,Jul 28,2024

On July 25, Infineon Technologies AG, a global semiconductor leader in power systems and the Internet of Things, and Swoboda jointly develop and sell high-performance current sensor modules for automotive applications. The collaboration combines Infineon's best-in-class current sensor ICs with Swoboda's technical expertise in sensor module development and industrialization to meet the rapidly growing market for hybrid and electric vehicle sensing solutions. The jointly developed high-performance current measurement solution accelerates time to market for high-volume applications such as traction inverters and battery management systems, as well as other critical automotive applications.

The first product, Swoboda CSM510HP2, uses a fully packaged current sensor module, which significantly reduces the area occupied without affecting performance. This product is equipped with Infineon TLE4973 coreless current sensor IC, which can achieve high-precision sensing with a total error of less than 2%. The module is designed for seamless integration with Infineon’s HybridPACK™ Drive G2 automotive power module for electric vehicle traction inverters, eliminating the need for a separate external current sensor, creating a more compact traction inverter.

Klaus Lebherz, head of business development at Swoboda, said: "The new generation of current sensors sets new standards in simplifying system integration. Infineon's latest sensor technology is a perfect match for Swoboda's injection molding technology."

Andrea Monterastelli, head of automotive magnetic sensor products at Infineon Technologies, said: "The market requires high-performance, compact and easy-to-integrate current sensing solutions. Thanks to Infineon's best-in-class current sensor ICs and Swoboda's technical expertise, this product Can be seamlessly integrated with Infineon’s HybridPACK™ Drive G2 to provide a more compact solution for hybrid and electric vehicles.”

Infineon and Swoboda are currently developing more current sensing solutions for various types of power devices. Other target applications include inverter DC links and high-voltage battery management.
